Visiting Temples Near Chao Phraya River in Bangkok

Before I went to Bangkok, I kept looking on how to get to the temples which is placed near Chao Phraya river. Turns out, it's all easy and pretty cheap if you went there with boat from Saphan Taksin pier.

Before we start, I would like to remind you who want to visit these place please dress properly. Covered shoulder, no skirt/pants. Basic t-shirt and long trouser is okay. You don't want to waste your money just to rent a trouser/scarf/anything right? Here's the how to:

1. Go to Saphan Taksin BTS Station

Saphan Taksin BTS station is located on Silom line (dark green) with S9 as code. Exit via EXIT 1 and walk straight towards the river. Then go to your left and you will see lot of ticket desk. Do not go to the pier which ask you to pay 100 THB unless you want a full trip on boat.

On Saphan Taksin pier, you might see lot of desks, just search for the ORANGE one. It cost 15 THB for each person. It arrive and depart really fast so you need to be fast when you want to take off from the boat. The queue line for orange boat will be long but the boat can accommodate lot of people so no worries. The boat will have Orange Flag so you can distinguish it well.

2. Look for N9 Pier to go to Grand Palance

Grand Palace and Wat Pho placed side by side. If you want to go to Grand Palace then go to Wat Pho, you need to go to N9 (Tha Chang Pier). From Grand Palace you might go on foot to Wat Pho.

But if you want to visit Wat Arun immediately, the boat will stop at Wat Arun first before go to the N9 pier. They will shout "Wat Arun!!".

On my last visit, I decided not to get into Grand Palace due to the expensive entrance ticket lol. It took 500 THB for each person to enter the Grand Palace, so me and my friend skipped it and went straight to Wat Pho. During my walk, some of local transport said, "Wat Arun open, Wat Pho not open", then I immediately looking on their website if there's something/ceremony happened that makes the temple is closed. Turns out no... So don't get deceived by them. All the temples open daily unless there's a ceremony stated. Wat Pho cost 100 THB for each person.

3. Go across the river from the pier near Wat Pho to Wat Arun

After you done exploring Wat Arun which is placed near Grand Palace, you might want to continue your visit to Wat Arun. From Wat Pho to Wat Arun you need to go to the pier to go across the river cost 4 THB. Then after you arrived there, you can go into the white temple cost 50 THB. It's a small but beautiful temple that's why the entrance fee is not that pricey. For me, the construction type similar to Candi Borobudur in Indonesia (but of course Borobudur is much bigger).

4. Want to go back?

You can take the crossing boat again for 4 THB or wait for the boat to take you back to Saphan Taksin.

For me, I took GRAB from Wat Pho to Siam because we need to have some lunch and it's cheaper since it's 3 of us.
